Coalition spokesman: Two ships entered Mukalla port illegally, carrying 80 vehicles and containers loaded with weapons and ammunition.

Coalition Forces Provide Clarity on UAE Statement Regarding Airstrike

The official spokesperson for the coalition forces, Major General Turki Al-Maliki, has clarified the recent statement from the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs concerning a “limited” airstrike targeting foreign military support at the port of Mukalla.

Unauthorized Entry of Vessels

Al-Maliki explained that two vessels entered the port without following proper procedures and without any authorization from the Yemeni government or the coalition leadership. Notably, these vessels disabled their tracking devices prior to entering the territorial waters. Upon their arrival, the port was closed, and workers were evacuated. It later emerged that the vessels were carrying over 80 vehicles along with containers filled with weapons and ammunition.

Communication with UAE Officials

The spokesperson noted that senior Emirati officials were informed about the necessity to prevent the shipment from leaving, in order to avoid its arrival in conflict zones. However, the Emirati side proceeded to transport the vehicles and munitions to Al-Riyan Base without notifying the Kingdom. This base currently hosts a limited number of Emirati personnel and coalition forces involved in the escalation.

Return of Vehicles and Ongoing Concerns

Al-Maliki confirmed that the coalition forces returned the vehicles to the port, while the containers of weapons remained at Al-Riyan Base. He emphasized that there is credible information indicating plans to distribute these weapons across various locations in the Wadi and Desert of Hadramaut, which could lead to an increase in military escalation.

Limited Military Operation for Civilian Safety

In light of the situation and to ensure the safety of civilians and facilities, coalition forces conducted a limited military operation before dawn on Tuesday, adhering to the rules of engagement. Al-Maliki reiterated that the remaining containers are still at Al-Riyan Base as of now.

The developments highlight ongoing tensions in the region and the coalition’s commitment to maintaining stability and preventing the escalation of conflict.
