Saudi Program Launches Urban Water Systems Project in Taiz

The Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen has initiated the “Enhancing Urban Water Systems” project in the city of Taiz. This initiative, valued at 3.5 million Saudi Riyals, partners with the Sila Development Organization. The launch coincides with a French project aimed at improving the efficiency and sustainability of water and sanitation services.

Beneficiaries of the Project

More than 139,000 individuals will directly benefit from these projects, while over 242,000 will gain indirect benefits. These initiatives aim to strengthen urban infrastructure’s capacity to address climate change impacts, enhancing the resilience of local communities.

Collaborative Efforts for Sustainable Development

The total investment for these projects reaches 7.4 million Saudi Riyals. This collaboration between the Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen and the Crisis and Support Center of the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs enhances the efficiency of implementation and the sustainability of services provided to beneficiaries in Taiz.

This partnership reflects a shared commitment between Saudi Arabia and France to improve the living conditions of the Yemeni people. The projects focus on supporting essential services, strengthening local institutions, and responding to the needs of host communities, internally displaced persons, and the most vulnerable groups.

The projects include building institutional and technical capacities for the local water and sanitation authority. They will also develop asset management and operational processes, reduce water loss, and enhance the efficient use of water resources. These efforts aim to improve access to safe and reliable water and sanitation services, thereby supporting public health and community stability in Taiz.

The Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen has launched a total of 62 projects and developmental initiatives in the water sector across various Yemeni governorates. These efforts aim to support essential services and improve the quality of life for the Yemeni population.
