On Sunday, the Presidential Leadership Council convened under the leadership of President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi. The meeting focused on the latest political, economic, administrative, security, and military developments in Yemen. Key members, including Dr. Abdullah Alimi and Othman Majali, participated in person, while other members, such as Aidarus Al-Zubaidi, Tariq Saleh, Abdulrahman Al-Mahrami, and Faraj Al-Bahsani, joined via video conference. Member Sultan Al-Arada was absent due to a valid excuse.
The council began with a brief review of its previous decisions and directives. Members discussed the necessary actions to coordinate with relevant authorities, particularly regarding fluctuations in the national currency and essential goods. They emphasized the importance of ensuring the government meets its obligations and advances its comprehensive reforms supported by regional and international stakeholders.
The review included reports on the executive authority’s performance over the past period, along with updated economic, financial, and monetary indicators. The council also examined recommendations to mitigate the impacts of halted oil exports and rising shipping costs, which have affected living conditions due to Houthi terrorist attacks backed by the Iranian regime.
The council addressed recent military and security developments, particularly the Houthi militia’s escalated activities across several fronts. These actions have resulted in significant losses for the militia in terms of personnel and military equipment.
The council commended the heightened vigilance displayed by the armed forces and all military formations in countering the militia’s attacks. Their efforts have thwarted repeated attempts to revert the situation to full-scale war, showing a commitment to alleviating the long-standing suffering of the Yemeni people.
The Presidential Leadership Council issued a warning about the Houthi militia’s ongoing exploitation of the Palestinian people’s plight and their legitimate cause. The council criticized the militia for using this issue to advance its narrow interests and rally misled citizens to target civilian sites, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis created by their coup against national consensus in September 2014.
The council plans to continue its meetings throughout the week to further discuss the issues on its agenda in light of local, regional, and international developments.
