On Friday, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, the head of the Presidential Leadership Council and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, convened an emergency meeting of the National Defense Council. Key members in attendance included Sultan Al-Aaradah, Tariq Saleh, Abdulrahman Al-Mahrami, Dr. Abdullah Alimi, Othman Majali, Mahmoud Al-Sabahi, and Salem Al-Khanbashi.
The meeting, which also included the Speaker of the House of Representatives Sheikh Sultan Al-Barakani, Prime Minister Dr. Sha’if Al-Zandani, and Chairman of the Shura Council Dr. Ahmed Obaid Bin Dagher, focused on the escalating security situation. The council discussed recent terrorist attacks by Houthi militias, which involved ballistic missiles and drones targeting military sites, vital installations, civilian areas, and homes in Marib, Hadramout, and Shabwa. These assaults have resulted in numerous casualties, including women and children.
The National Defense Council expressed heartfelt condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers and civilians. They honored the memory of the deceased and wished for the swift recovery of the injured. The council emphasized its commitment to providing necessary care for the wounded, honoring the martyrs, and supporting their families. They also vowed to respond decisively to threats and terrorism.
The council reiterated that these national sacrifices would only strengthen the resolve of the Yemeni people and their armed forces to continue the fight for state restoration and to end the Iranian-backed coup. This, they believe, is essential for achieving security and stability in Yemen and contributing to the protection of regional and international maritime security.
The council reaffirmed that ending the coup remains the only way to restore Yemen to its rightful path. They stressed the importance of enabling state institutions to fulfill their duties, resuming salary payments in areas controlled by terrorist militias, alleviating suffering, and achieving sustainable peace and development.
The council reviewed detailed reports on the current military situation, readiness levels, and measures taken to protect civilians. They discussed strategies to mitigate the impact of terrorist attacks and enhance defensive capabilities to prevent future incidents.
The council praised the high efficiency and combat readiness of the armed forces and security agencies. They acknowledged the sacrifices made in confronting Houthi militias and terrorist organizations. The council also highlighted ongoing successes in combating terrorism, organized crime, and arms and drug trafficking, as well as the military’s active role in safeguarding international shipping routes.
The council urged all political forces, national components, and media outlets to fulfill their national responsibilities during this critical phase. They called for unity behind state institutions and the armed forces, emphasizing the need for a cohesive national discourse to thwart Houthi efforts aimed at weakening the internal front and executing their destructive plans.
In a related development, the National Defense Council welcomed the announcement of the Mecca Agreement for joint defense among Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan. They viewed this as a strategic step toward enhancing collective security, regional stability, and defense cooperation among nations with shared interests, committed to upholding international law.
The council made several decisions and directives aimed at elevating military and security readiness, enhancing civil defense coordination, and protecting civilians and vital installations. They ensured the immediate implementation of measures to respond decisively to terrorist attacks and bolster the state’s capacity to face various challenges.
The council also agreed to maintain a continuous session to respond promptly to evolving security developments and take necessary actions consistently.
