On Tuesday, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, head of the Presidential Leadership Council, convened a meeting with the Consultation and Reconciliation Commission. The agenda focused on recent national developments, particularly the unilateral actions taken by the Southern Transitional Council outside the agreed-upon frameworks. These actions raise significant political, economic, security, and military implications.
During the meeting, attended by Vice Presidents Abdulmalik Al-Mikhlafi, Sakhr Al-Wajeeh, Jamila Ali Rajea, and Akram Al-Amari, President Alimi emphasized the crucial role of the Consultation and Reconciliation Commission. He described it as a pillar of national consensus established by the power transfer declaration to support the Presidential Leadership Council. The commission aims to safeguard national partnership and prevent the country from descending into chaos.
President Alimi urged the commission to embrace collective responsibility during this critical moment. He called for a proactive vision that goes beyond mere reactions. The goal is to develop governance tools that protect state institutions and deter any attempts to undermine the existing partnership among national forces opposing the Iranian-backed Houthi militia.
The president reiterated his firm rejection of any unilateral measures or attempts to impose a reality outside the framework of national consensus and transitional governance references. He warned that complacency regarding this trajectory could strip the Presidential Council and its supporting bodies of their consensual essence, jeopardizing the state’s legal standing and potentially escalating internal conflict within the legitimacy.
President Alimi affirmed that the Consultation and Reconciliation Commission is an integral part of the legitimacy protection system. According to the power transfer declaration, it must confront any actions that undermine existing consensus. He stressed the importance of preventing the country from slipping into new internal conflicts and rejecting any attempts to force a political partnership through coercion.
The president reiterated the legitimacy of the Southern cause, framing it as a political and national rights issue. He cautioned that using it as a pretext for unilateral actions would undermine opportunities for resolution and weaken regional and international support. Such a shift could lead the cause away from a safe political path toward a confrontational one.
President Alimi highlighted that Yemen’s supreme interests today include alleviating suffering, maintaining unified decision-making, ensuring continued regional and international support, protecting the economic recovery process, and preventing the isolation or weakening of legitimacy.
The meeting included a briefing from the leadership of the Consultation and Reconciliation Commission regarding their approaches to current developments. The commission expressed its full support for the Presidential Leadership Council and the government. They emphasized the importance of advancing tasks outlined in the transitional references and empowering leadership to take necessary actions to protect national consensus and mobilize efforts against the Iranian-backed Houthi militia.
Dr. Yahya Al-Shaibi, Director of the Presidential Office, also attended the meeting, underscoring the collaborative efforts to address Yemen’s pressing challenges.
