Members of the United Nations Security Council have reiterated their strong commitment to Yemen’s unity, sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity. They expressed unwavering support for the Presidential Leadership Council and the Yemeni government.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Security Council members reaffirmed their steadfast backing for the efforts of the UN Special Envoy to Yemen. They emphasized their dedication to achieving lasting peace and prosperity for the Yemeni people. The Council members reiterated their ongoing support for political settlement efforts aimed at alleviating the suffering of the Yemeni population.
The statement highlighted that the ongoing escalation, including recent developments in Yemen, does not create a conducive environment for progress. The Council urged all parties and regional stakeholders to intensify diplomatic efforts and reduce tensions.
The Council members condemned, in the strongest terms, the ongoing abductions carried out by the Houthis against UN personnel, national and international NGOs, civil society organizations, and diplomatic missions. They expressed deep concern for the safety and well-being of those detained since 2021, 2023, and 2024, as well as individuals held since August 31, 2025.
The Security Council members renewed their calls for the immediate and unconditional release of all individuals held by the Houthis. They stressed that any threats against humanitarian workers are unacceptable and exacerbate the already dire humanitarian situation in Yemen.
This article aims to provide clarity on the UN Security Council’s position regarding Yemen, emphasizing the need for peace and the protection of humanitarian efforts.
