Washington, D.C. – Dr. Waed Badhieb, Yemen’s Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, emphasized the critical role of sustainable job creation in achieving stability and peace across the Arab region. He made this statement during a meeting with Arab governors and Ajay Banga, President of the World Bank Group, held on the sidelines of the annual meetings in Washington, D.C.
During the meeting, Badhieb highlighted Yemen’s significant reforms despite ongoing challenges. He noted improvements in currency stability and the enhancement of local resources. The Minister stressed that genuine progress relies on strategic investments in infrastructure, institutions, and the private sector.
Badhieb praised the World Bank’s positive impact on Yemen, which has helped maintain essential services and prevent the collapse of vital institutions. He urged the continuation of these interventions to strengthen the resilience of national institutions.
The Minister underscored the importance of the World Bank remaining a key partner in fragile situations. He proposed the establishment of a dedicated fund for reconstruction and development in Yemen, advocating for a collaborative model that includes government institutions and international partners.
In response, Ajay Banga outlined the World Bank’s strategy to support conflict-affected countries. He focused on creating job opportunities and attracting investments in critical sectors such as infrastructure, energy, agriculture, healthcare, and manufacturing. Banga also highlighted the necessity of developing early warning systems for sustainable development.
The meeting also included the presence of Abdulwahab Al-Hajri, Yemen’s Ambassador to the United States, who contributed to discussions on Yemen’s development needs.
This collaborative dialogue underscores the urgent need for continued international support to foster stability and growth in Yemen and the broader Arab region.
