The Minister of Transport inspects the conditions of the Arab Sea Ports Authority.

Al-Mukalla, Hadhramaut – Dr. Abdul Salam Humeid, the Minister of Transport, conducted an inspection today at Al-Mukalla Port, part of the Yemeni Red Sea Ports Authority. He reviewed the port’s commercial and maritime activities, including cargo handling at the docks and storage areas. The minister also assessed the operations of various administrative offices within the port.

Meeting on Port Development Projects

Following the inspection, Minister Humeid held a comprehensive meeting with key stakeholders. Attendees included Captain Ali Al-Sobhi, Deputy Minister of Transport for Maritime Affairs, Engineer Amin Barziq, Deputy Governor of Hadhramaut for Technical Affairs, and Engineer Salem Basamir, Chairman of the Red Sea Ports Authority. The meeting also featured Foad Al-Rabaki, the deputy chairman, along with directors from various departments and security agencies operating at the port.

The discussions focused on the progress of ongoing projects at the ports, particularly the Qena Port in Shabwa, Socotra Port, and Qishn Port in Al-Mahra. Participants reviewed the status of these projects to ensure timely completion.

Addressing Regional Developments and Port Readiness

The meeting also addressed recent regional developments, including the bombardment of Hodeidah ports. Minister Humeid emphasized the need to prepare liberated ports to receive all imported goods. He instructed the team to begin planning for the implementation of a single-window system in coordination with customs and trade authorities. Additionally, he proposed adjustments to shipping fees.

Commitment to Enhancing Port Efficiency

Minister Humeid reaffirmed the commitment of the Presidential Leadership Council, the government, and the Ministry of Transport to enhance the efficiency and readiness of Yemeni ports in liberated areas. This initiative aims to facilitate the arrival of commercial vessels and ensure the delivery of goods to regions controlled by Houthi militias.

Impact of Houthi Attacks on Maritime Security

The minister highlighted the repercussions of Houthi militia attacks on international shipping routes, which have exacerbated the conflict in the Red Sea. These attacks have led to significant economic and living condition challenges for citizens, including increased insurance and shipping costs. He called for improved organization and coordination among all transport sectors, particularly maritime, to maintain services at liberated ports and bolster their operational capabilities during this challenging period.
