German Chancellor Expresses Concern Over Red Sea Developments

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz confirmed today that Germany closely monitors the developments in the Red Sea. He emphasized that Germany will not allow international navigation to fall into the hands of the Houthi movement.

Firm Stance Against Houthi Escalation

During a press conference held in Berlin alongside Iraqi Prime Minister, Merz reiterated Germany’s strong position regarding the Houthi escalation and its threats to maritime security. His comments reflect a commitment to maintaining safe navigation in international waters.

Support for Yemen’s Government

Merz’s statement follows a declaration by German Foreign Minister Johan Wadephol, who reaffirmed Germany’s support for the Yemeni government in its fight against Houthi terrorist attacks. Wadephol warned that the escalation in Yemen exacerbates instability in both the country and the region.

Continued Commitment to Yemen

In a phone call on Monday with Yemen’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Afrah Al-Zouba, Wadephol confirmed that Germany stands with the Yemeni people and their government. He assured that Germany will continue to enhance its support at all levels.
