Chief Justice Meets Judicial Leaders in Hodeidah

The Chief Justice of the Supreme Judicial Council, Judge Mohsen Yahya Taleb, met today in the temporary capital of Aden with leaders and members of the judiciary from Hodeidah Governorate.

Welcoming Remarks and Acknowledgment of Challenges

At the beginning of the meeting, attended by the Secretary-General of the Supreme Judicial Council, Judge Sahl Hamza, Council member Judge Mohammed Kadeesh, President of the Hodeidah Court of Appeals Judge Al-Azi Ali Abkar, President of the Hodeidah Appeals Prosecution Judge Ahmed Abdo Dahani, President of the Military Prosecution in Hodeidah Judge Fadl Mohammed Al-Jubani, and several judges and administrators, Judge Taleb welcomed the attending judges. He praised their national stances against the assaults and incursions faced by judicial facilities in the districts of Hays, Al-Khokha, and Al-Mokha by the Houthi militia.

Reports of Violations and Losses

Judge Taleb listened to briefings from the present judges regarding the incursions and complete looting of court archives, case files, and computer equipment. They reported the release of prisoners and convicts involved in criminal cases, as well as the looting of homes and personal properties of several judges, which forced them to flee and abandon their residences.

Condemnation of Attacks and Support for Judges

The Chief Justice condemned these actions directed against civil judicial facilities, emphasizing their contradiction with national laws and international charters. He expressed his full solidarity with the leaders and members of the judiciary in Hodeidah and Al-Mokha, showing his readiness to arrange the situations of the affected judges, address their issues, and alleviate all difficulties they face due to forced displacement and property theft.

Commitment to Legal Action and Protection of Judiciary

Judge Mohsen Taleb stressed that the Supreme Judicial Council would not hesitate to take all legal measures to document these crimes and pursue their perpetrators. He affirmed the commitment to protect judges and ensure the continued operation of judicial institutions to uphold citizens’ rights and preserve justice.

In turn, the leaders and members of the judiciary in Hodeidah expressed their deep gratitude and appreciation to the Chief Justice for his support during this exceptional circumstance. They strongly condemned the militia’s imposition of control over judicial facilities by force.
