On Wednesday, Abdul Rahman Sheikh, the Minister of State and Governor of Aden, met with Janet Sieben, the Dutch Ambassador to Yemen. They discussed ways to enhance mutual cooperation and support development efforts in the temporary capital of Aden.
During the meeting, which included Engineer Ghassan Al-Zamki, the Deputy Governor, and Ishtiaq Saad, the Director of the Women’s Administration, Sheikh highlighted the general conditions in Aden. He addressed the challenges facing local authorities across various sectors. Sheikh emphasized the local government’s commitment to expanding partnerships with international entities to improve service delivery and bolster stability.
Sheikh expressed appreciation for the support provided by the Netherlands, particularly in the water sector. He noted ongoing projects aimed at enhancing the efficiency of the water system and ensuring sustainable water resources. These initiatives aim to positively impact citizens’ lives and alleviate their hardships.
The meeting also covered several issues of mutual interest, including support for infrastructure projects, improvement of basic services, and promotion of sustainable development programs. Building institutional capacities emerged as a priority to meet citizens’ needs and contribute to recovery and stability.
In response, Ambassador Sieben reaffirmed her government’s commitment to supporting humanitarian and developmental efforts in Yemen. She praised the existing cooperation with local authorities in Aden and expressed readiness to strengthen partnerships. The ambassador also highlighted the importance of expanding support in priority sectors to improve living conditions for residents.
This collaboration between Aden’s local government and the Dutch Embassy reflects a shared commitment to fostering development and enhancing the quality of life for the people of Aden.
