Al-Mahra, Yemen – On [insert date], Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Fisheries, Salem Al-Saqtri, met with the leadership and staff of the Agriculture and Irrigation Office in Al-Mahra Governorate. The meeting focused on identifying the key needs of the agricultural sector in the region.
During the meeting, Minister Al-Saqtri, accompanied by the Secretary-General of the Local Council in Al-Mahra, Salem Nimer, and the representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Yemen, Adam Yao, listened to a presentation by Engineer Saeed Al-Qumeiri, the director of the Agriculture and Irrigation Office. Al-Qumeiri outlined the current state of agriculture in Al-Mahra, highlighting significant challenges and the necessary requirements to enhance agricultural production and improve infrastructure.
Minister Al-Saqtri emphasized the ministry’s commitment to supporting the agricultural sector and encouraging investment. He noted that these efforts aim to boost agricultural production and achieve sustainable development. He praised the Agriculture and Irrigation Office’s efforts in coordinating with the ministry and supporting organizations to implement developmental projects.
In his remarks, Secretary-General Nimer discussed the primary challenges facing the governorate, particularly the damage caused by recent hurricanes. He expressed appreciation for the support from the Ministry of Agriculture and donor organizations in executing projects aimed at developing and rehabilitating infrastructure, especially veterinary quarantine facilities, veterinary centers, and customs facilities.
Adam Yao, the FAO representative in Yemen, reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to continue supporting the agricultural sector in Al-Mahra. He highlighted the importance of strengthening partnerships with the Ministry of Agriculture and local authorities to implement projects that enhance agricultural infrastructure, improve service efficiency, and promote sustainable agricultural development.
This meeting marks a significant step toward addressing the agricultural needs in Al-Mahra, paving the way for future investments and improvements in the sector.
