A 5.6 magnitude earthquake shook a region near the Suez Canal in northeastern Egypt early Monday morning. Fortunately, initial reports indicate no casualties or property damage, according to the National Institute for Astronomical and Geophysical Research.
The earthquake occurred at 3:01 AM local time (00:01 GMT), approximately 61 kilometers northwest of Sharm El Sheikh and 125 kilometers east of Cairo, with a depth of 26 kilometers. The institute reported that the quake registered at a latitude of 30.62 degrees north and a longitude of 32.57 degrees east.
Many residents in various areas reported feeling the tremor, but no significant damage has been recorded. Dr. Bassem Nabawy, the head of the institute, confirmed that the earthquake did not result in human or structural losses. He assured the public that specialized teams continue to monitor seismic activity in the region.
Authorities remain vigilant as they assess the situation. The earthquake serves as a reminder of the geological activity in the area, but for now, residents can feel reassured by the lack of reported damage or injuries.
