In a significant meeting held today in Aden, the temporary capital of Yemen, Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Fisheries, Salem Al-Saqtri, engaged with Riyad Khan, the Country Director of Mercy Corps. The discussion focused on enhancing cooperation between the two parties and exploring ways to implement developmental projects that support the agriculture and fisheries sectors, particularly in rural and coastal areas affected by climate change and conflict.
Minister Al-Saqtri emphasized the critical need to strengthen value chains within the fisheries sector. He highlighted the importance of ensuring that products reach markets efficiently and safely. This approach aims to guarantee quality and improve economic returns for fishermen. Al-Saqtri praised Mercy Corps for its positive role in supporting development efforts in Yemen.
In response, Khan reaffirmed Mercy Corps’ commitment to supporting the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Fisheries. He outlined the organization’s plans to expand partnerships and implement programs focused on building the capacities of local communities. These initiatives aim to improve livelihoods and enhance food security in the most vulnerable regions.
This collaboration marks a vital step towards sustainable development in Yemen, addressing the pressing challenges faced by the agriculture and fisheries sectors.
