The local authorities in Hadhramaut expressed deep sorrow over the passing of prominent national figure Ali Salem Al-Baidh, the former Vice President of the Presidential Council. He passed away today after a life dedicated to sacrifice, struggle, and courageous national stances.
Saeed Ahmed Al-Khanbashi, a member of the Presidential Leadership Council and Governor of Hadhramaut, conveyed heartfelt condolences in an official statement. He emphasized that the nation lost a significant figure with Al-Baidh’s departure. Al-Baidh represented a symbol of the national movement and a distinguished leader who left an indelible mark on contemporary Yemeni history, particularly in the hearts of the people of Hadhramaut.
The condolence statement highlighted Al-Baidh’s illustrious historical and struggle-filled journey. His activism began at the dawn of the fight against colonialism, where he became one of the first members of the national movement opposing British rule. He emerged as a prominent leadership figure within the National Front.
Following Yemen’s independence in 1967, Al-Baidh held several ministerial and sovereign positions, including Minister of Defense and Minister of Foreign Affairs. He also served as the Governor of Hadhramaut and eventually became the Secretary-General of the Yemeni Socialist Party.
History records Al-Baidh’s significant role as one of the architects of Yemeni unity in 1990. He served as the Vice President of the Presidential Council and consistently voiced the aspirations of his people while staunchly defending national positions throughout his political career.
On behalf of the local authorities and the people of Hadhramaut, Governor Al-Khanbashi extended sincere condolences to Al-Baidh’s children—Faisal, Adnan, Amr, Hani, Naif, and Younf—as well as to his esteemed family, relatives, and all his comrades and admirers both domestically and abroad. He prayed for divine mercy for the deceased and for comfort and solace for his family and loved ones during this difficult time.
The local authorities in Hadhramaut honor the legacy of Ali Salem Al-Baidh, recognizing his contributions to the nation and the profound impact he had on the lives of many.
