The International Rescue Committee calls for continued humanitarian funding and recovery efforts in Yemen.

International Rescue Committee Urges Continued Support for Yemen Amid Ongoing Humanitarian Crisis

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) has called on the global community to maintain its support for Yemen, which faces a persistent humanitarian crisis. In a recent press statement, the IRC highlighted that over a decade of conflict has severely damaged the country’s healthcare system and pushed malnutrition rates to catastrophic levels.

Dire Humanitarian Needs in Yemen

Caroline Sekiwia, the IRC’s Yemen office director, reported that nearly 20 million Yemenis require humanitarian assistance. She emphasized the importance of sustained international support to ensure the survival of Yemenis and to empower them to rebuild their future. The IRC’s appeal underscores the urgent need for action as the situation continues to deteriorate.

Recent Humanitarian Efforts

Notably, the IRC recently concluded a humanitarian project funded by the European Union. This initiative provided health, nutrition, and protection services to 1.4 million individuals across nine governorates over the past four years. Such efforts demonstrate the impact of international aid in addressing critical needs in Yemen.

Prioritizing Health Infrastructure and Food Security

The IRC stressed that enhancing health infrastructure, addressing food insecurity, and protecting vulnerable groups—including women, girls, and internally displaced persons—must remain at the forefront of humanitarian response efforts in Yemen. As the crisis unfolds, the IRC urges stakeholders to prioritize these areas to alleviate suffering and foster recovery.

The ongoing humanitarian crisis in Yemen requires immediate and sustained attention from the international community. By continuing to support initiatives that address health and nutrition, the global community can play a crucial role in helping Yemenis navigate this challenging period and work towards a more stable future.
