Yemen’s Minister of Planning Discusses National Priorities with Qatar Development Fund

HAMBURG, Germany – Dr. Afrah Al-Zuba, Yemen’s Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, met today with Haya Al-Thani, Deputy Director-General of Planning at the Qatar Development Fund. Their discussion focused on Yemen’s governmental priorities in the sectors of health, education, energy, and water during the Hamburg Sustainability Conference 2026.

Government Efforts in Economic Reforms

The meeting highlighted the Yemeni government’s ongoing efforts to implement economic reforms and strengthen the private sector. Both parties aimed to prepare a joint action plan that would evolve into practical projects addressing national priorities. The Qatari side reaffirmed the Fund’s continued commitment to Yemen, showcasing existing programs in the water and sanitation sectors.

Collaboration with the g7+ Fragile States Group

In a separate discussion, Minister Al-Zuba met with the Secretary-General of the g7+ Fragile States Group to explore avenues for collaboration and enhance coordination in supporting fragile nations. They emphasized the importance of collective action to bring these issues to the attention of the United Nations Security Council and the G20. Yemen was highlighted as a model to showcase the shared challenges faced by these countries.

Advocating for Success Stories

Both sides stressed the need to coordinate efforts to highlight success stories and continue joint advocacy. This approach aims to enhance the visibility of fragile states on international platforms. Minister Al-Zuba underscored the significance of transitioning from humanitarian response to sustainable development. She called on the international community not to abandon fragile nations in their struggle against crises, pointing out that Yemen’s challenges stem from factors beyond its control, including climate change and declining international funding.
