On Tuesday morning, a teacher was tragically killed inside a school in Khamer, located in the Amran Governorate. The victim, identified as Mohammed Ahmed Al-Haj, suffered fatal stab wounds inflicted by a colleague affiliated with the Houthi militia. This incident highlights the alarming increase in violence within educational settings in areas controlled by the militia.
According to reliable sources, Al-Haj was attacked with a knife while at the school where he worked. The confrontation began as a discussion between Al-Haj and another teacher, who is a member of the Houthi group. The situation escalated into a heated argument, culminating in the colleague stabbing Al-Haj before fleeing the scene.
Sources indicate that Al-Haj’s body, originally from Najd Mashra’a and Hadnan in Taiz Governorate, was transported to a hospital in Amran. With over twenty years of experience in teaching, Al-Haj’s death underscores the rising tide of violence in Houthi-controlled regions, particularly within educational institutions.
This tragic event underscores the urgent need for enhanced protection for those working in the education sector. There are growing demands for accountability for individuals involved in such violent acts. It is crucial for the legitimate government to intensify efforts to safeguard schools and their staff, ensuring a safe learning environment for students.
