Governor of Taiz Emphasizes Importance of Zakat Resource Development

Taiz, Yemen – Governor Nabil Shamsan highlighted the critical need for developing zakat resources and enhancing collection mechanisms. This initiative aligns with the comprehensive economic reform framework aimed at improving financial performance and boosting state resources.

Economic Reform Framework

During the opening of a workshop focused on strengthening zakat collection efforts, Governor Shamsan noted that the directives from the political leadership, represented by President Rashad Mohammed Alimi, form the foundation for local authority operations in financial and administrative aspects. These directives promote principles of governance, transparency, and financial discipline.

Key Focus on Zakat Resources

Shamsan emphasized that developing resources, particularly zakat, serves as a fundamental pillar in financial operations. Future plans will include a comprehensive inventory of revenue sources and transitioning to a single-window collection system. This approach aims to simplify procedures, ensure equitable collection, and reduce financial leakage and duplication.

Collaborative Efforts for Financial Reform

The governor stressed the importance of collaboration among various stakeholders to successfully implement financial reform programs. Such cooperation will positively impact public service quality and support economic and social development in the province.

Insights from Financial Directors

During the workshop, directors from the finance and zakat departments underscored the necessity of enhancing revenue collection mechanisms. They advocated for developing zakat resources based on legal and institutional frameworks to achieve developmental, service-oriented, and community goals.

Workshop Details

The two-day workshop covers several topics, including the legislative framework for zakat, defining roles and responsibilities of involved entities, and reviewing the structure of zakat resources. Participants will also assess last year’s collection figures and evaluate strengths and weaknesses in zakat resources and their sources. Directors from various districts and zakat collection departments will actively participate in these discussions.

This initiative marks a significant step toward improving financial governance and resource management in Taiz, ultimately benefiting the local community and economy.
