Yemen's Foreign Ministry Condemns Houthi Militia's Abusive Practices

The Yemeni Foreign Ministry has strongly condemned the abusive practices carried out by the Houthi militia against United Nations staff and international organizations operating in areas under their control. These actions have tragically resulted in the death of Ahmed Ba’alawi, an information technology operations officer with the World Food Programme.

Ministry Expresses Condolences

In a statement received by the Yemeni News Agency (Saba), the ministry expressed its heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased. The statement highlighted that Ba’alawi lost his life while being detained in Houthi prisons. Furthermore, the ministry emphasized that the ongoing terrorist practices by the militia demonstrate a blatant disregard for international humanitarian laws.

Call for Immediate Release of Detained Staff

The Foreign Ministry has urged the Houthi militia to immediately release all detained personnel from UN agencies and international organizations. The ministry reiterated its call for relocating UN offices to the temporary capital, Aden, to ensure the safety and security of all personnel working there.

The situation underscores the urgent need for accountability and respect for humanitarian principles in Yemen. The Foreign Ministry’s statements reflect a commitment to protecting the rights of those working to provide essential services in the region.
