On Tuesday, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, head of the Presidential Leadership Council, convened at the Maashiq Palace with Chief Justice Mohsen Yahya Talib and several members of the Supreme Judicial Council. The meeting also included Justice Minister Badr Al-Aradah and Attorney General Qaher Mustafa.
During the meeting, President Alimi extended his congratulations to the judicial leadership and all members of the judiciary on the commencement of the new judicial year. He expressed the Council’s appreciation for the significant achievements of this vital national institution and highlighted the esteemed role of justice officials in upholding the constitution and the law.
President Alimi reaffirmed the importance of the judiciary as a key pillar of state authority deserving of care and attention. He emphasized that, despite the ongoing challenges and difficult circumstances facing the country, the judiciary will continue to play a crucial role in ensuring justice and maintaining civil peace.
The President reiterated the commitment of the Presidential Leadership Council and the government to uphold judicial independence, stressing that non-interference in judicial matters is a fundamental principle of the constitution and good governance.
The President noted that the current phase of nation-building requires intensified efforts and continuous work. He called on judicial bodies to undertake a significant national responsibility to enhance the state’s authority, empower citizens to access their rights, and raise awareness about their duties.
President Alimi acknowledged the hardships faced by judicial personnel, expressing confidence in their ability to overcome difficulties and continue their vital work. He emphasized their deep commitment to their national responsibilities during these exceptional circumstances.
The President also addressed the increasing security challenges that necessitate the development of laws governing the judiciary. He highlighted the need to respond effectively to threats posed by Houthi militia cells and violations supported by the Iranian regime.
President Alimi praised the efforts of the Supreme Judicial Council and the judiciary’s successes in recent times. He committed to collaborating with the government to secure the necessary resources for judicial development and to facilitate access to justice for citizens.
In his remarks, President Alimi expressed pride in the achievements of the judiciary, including close coordination with various stakeholders to defend the legal status of the state, condemn lawbreakers, release the innocent, and combat corruption and terrorism. He underscored that the efforts of justice officials, alongside the armed forces and security institutions, form a robust barrier to protect social peace and achieve victory.
During the meeting, President Alimi received updates from the Chief Justice and judicial leaders regarding the progress of tasks and cases before various judicial circuits. They discussed the judiciary’s role in reinforcing state presence and enforcing the rule of law, including the presidential endorsement of over 150 final rulings in serious criminal cases after nearly a decade of inactivity in imposing such punitive measures.
The updates also highlighted notable advancements in institutional development and the swift initiation of procedures to resolve cases and provide services to citizens. Judicial leaders elaborated on the urgent institutional and living needs of justice officials at all levels.
This meeting underscores the ongoing commitment to strengthening the judiciary and ensuring justice in the face of challenges, reinforcing the rule of law as a cornerstone of governance.
