The Foreign Minister discusses the latest developments in Yemen during a lecture at the Kuwaiti Diplomatic Institute.

Yemeni Foreign Minister Discusses Current Situation in Yemen

Kuwait City, Kuwait – Dr. Shai’a Al-Zandani, Yemen’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, addressed the ongoing developments in Yemen during a lecture at the Saudi Nasser Al-Sabah Diplomatic Institute in Kuwait. The event, attended by Kuwaiti Deputy Foreign Minister Sheikh Jraah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah and several diplomats, focused on the impact of the Houthi militia’s coup against the Yemeni government and its citizens since 2011.

Government’s Response to Regional and International Efforts

During his lecture, Minister Al-Zandani highlighted the Yemeni government’s commitment to engaging with regional and international initiatives aimed at ending the conflict and achieving peace. He emphasized the importance of adhering to established references, particularly United Nations Security Council Resolution 2216 and related resolutions. Al-Zandani also discussed the circumstances surrounding the Stockholm Agreement, which has hindered the liberation of the strategic port of Hodeidah from Houthi control.

Regional Dimensions of the Yemeni Crisis

The minister pointed out that the Yemeni crisis has regional implications, particularly due to Iranian interference. He accused the Iranian regime of providing military support to the Houthi militia as part of its expansionist agenda in the region. Al-Zandani stressed that confronting these insurgent groups requires a coordinated regional and international response to encourage them to pursue a comprehensive peace that restores security and stability in Yemen and the broader region.

Impact of Houthi Aggression on Maritime Security

Al-Zandani addressed the negative consequences of Houthi aggression in the Red Sea, including attacks on civilian commercial vessels. He noted that such actions threaten freedom of navigation and international trade, leading to increased food prices and higher shipping and insurance costs for vessels arriving at Yemeni ports.

Continued International Support for Yemen

The foreign minister underscored the necessity for ongoing international efforts to support the Yemeni government. He called for assistance to help the government navigate the challenging economic conditions and meet the humanitarian needs of its citizens.

Acknowledgment of Arab Coalition Support

Al-Zandani praised the significant role played by the Arab Coalition, led by Saudi Arabia, in supporting the legitimate Yemeni government politically, economically, and militarily. He expressed gratitude for the coalition’s steadfast support during these challenging times.

Appreciation for Kuwait’s Support

In conclusion, Minister Al-Zandani extended his heartfelt thanks to the leadership, government, and people of Kuwait for their principled support of Yemen across various sectors. He acknowledged Kuwait’s longstanding role as a reliable ally for Yemen in times of need, whether through humanitarian aid, political backing, or developmental cooperation.

This lecture reflects the ongoing commitment of the Yemeni government to engage with international partners and address the multifaceted challenges facing the nation.
