Deputy Foreign Minister Discusses UNHCR Operations in Yemen

In a significant meeting held today in the temporary capital of Aden, Deputy Foreign Minister Mustafa Noman engaged with Mohammed Rafiq, the head of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) office. The discussion focused on enhancing the UNHCR’s operations in Yemen and establishing effective coordination mechanisms with the Yemeni government to protect refugees and support host communities.

Emphasizing Humanitarian Efforts

During the meeting, Deputy Minister Noman highlighted the crucial humanitarian role that the UNHCR plays in Yemen. He stressed the need to activate collaboration and integration mechanisms between the UNHCR and relevant national entities. This approach aims to foster an effective and sustainable response to the challenges faced by refugees and internally displaced persons.

Strengthening Partnerships

In response, Rafiq expressed appreciation for the Yemeni government’s ongoing cooperation with the UNHCR. He reiterated the UNHCR’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with national institutions and local partners.
