Council member Aidarus al-Zubaidi discusses economic support and development efforts in Yemen with the French ambassador.

Meeting Between Yemeni Leadership and French Ambassador

On Sunday, Major General Aidarus al-Zubaidi, a member of the Presidential Leadership Council, welcomed Catherine Colonna, the French Ambassador to Yemen. This meeting focused on several pressing political, economic, and humanitarian issues facing Yemen.

Economic Crisis at the Forefront

The discussion highlighted Yemen’s worsening economic crisis, primarily caused by the ongoing halt of oil and gas exports. This disruption stems from terrorist attacks by the Houthi militia on export ports in the Hadramout and Shabwa governorates. As a result, the country has seen a significant decline in public revenues and a deterioration in living conditions for its citizens.

Al-Zubaidi emphasized the urgent need for increased international efforts to support the Yemeni government and the Presidential Leadership Council. He called for initiatives to revitalize vital economic sectors, particularly oil and gas, and to secure export ports from Houthi attacks.

Political Developments and Peace Efforts

The meeting also addressed the latest developments in the political landscape and efforts to advance a comprehensive peace process. Al-Zubaidi reiterated that engaging in political negotiations with a group classified internationally as a terrorist organization poses a real threat to regional and global security.

Development and Humanitarian Projects

In attendance were Mohammed Al-Ghaithi, head of the Consultation and Reconciliation Commission, and Dr. Nasser Al-Khubji, a member of the commission. They discussed various development and humanitarian projects funded by France through the European Union and United Nations organizations. Al-Zubaidi expressed hope for expanding French support, particularly in energy, education, healthcare, and the empowerment of women and youth.

France’s Commitment to Yemen

Ambassador Colonna reaffirmed France’s steadfast position in supporting international efforts aimed at achieving peace in Yemen. She emphasized France’s commitment to continuing humanitarian and developmental projects across various regions, in coordination with the Yemeni government and the Presidential Leadership Council. Colonna acknowledged the significant challenges facing Yemen and pledged to persist in efforts to assist the Yemeni people and alleviate their suffering.

This meeting underscores the ongoing collaboration between Yemen and France, aiming to address the multifaceted challenges in the region while fostering stability and development.
