The Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council praises Egypt’s support for the Yemeni people and their political leadership.

President Alimi Receives Egyptian Ambassador

On Thursday, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, welcomed the Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Ihab Abu Sereih, to mark the conclusion of his tenure as ambassador to Yemen.

Diplomatic Greetings and Well Wishes

During the meeting, the Egyptian ambassador conveyed greetings from his counterpart, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, expressing wishes for security, stability, and peace for the Yemeni people. In return, President Alimi asked the ambassador to extend his greetings to President El-Sisi, wishing him good health and happiness, and hoping for progress and prosperity for the Egyptian people under his wise leadership.

Strengthening Bilateral Relations

President Alimi praised the diplomatic efforts of Ambassador Abu Sereih in strengthening the historical brotherly relations between the two countries. He wished the ambassador success in his future endeavors.

Egypt’s Support for Yemen

The President expressed his high appreciation for Egypt’s steadfast position alongside the Yemeni people and acknowledged Egypt’s historical role in Yemen and the region. He valued President El-Sisi’s commitment to the security of the Red Sea and the stability of its nations.

Recent Developments and Houthi Escalation

The discussion also covered recent developments, particularly the escalation of Houthi militia activities at various levels, with support from expertise linked to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and allied groups, especially in the western coast of Taiz Governorate.

Iranian Influence and Regional Security

President Alimi addressed the goals and ambitions of the Houthi militia behind their advances towards the western coast. He noted that the Iranian regime aims to empower its Houthi proxies to influence Bab el-Mandeb and the Red Sea, potentially shifting pressures on Tehran into costs for the region, global trade, and markets.

Strategic Importance of Bab el-Mandeb

The President emphasized that any attempt to alter the military situation near Bab el-Mandeb cannot be viewed as solely a Yemeni issue. This strait serves as a vital international passage, and any threat to it directly impacts the Red Sea, the Suez Canal, and global trade.

Shared Interests in Regional Stability

President Alimi asserted that protecting the Yemeni coast and restoring state control over its territories, ports, and territorial waters represent a shared interest for Yemen, Egypt, the Arab world, and the international community.

Continued Egyptian Support

The Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council expressed confidence in Egypt’s ongoing leadership role in supporting Yemeni state institutions and advocating for the implementation of Security Council resolutions, as well as preventing the flow of weapons, technology, and military expertise to terrorist militias.

Dr. Yahya Al-Shaibi, Director of the Presidential Office, attended the meeting.
