On Wednesday, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, head of the Presidential Leadership Council, received Jassim Mohammed Al-Budaiwi, the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). This meeting underscored the strong historical ties between Yemen and the GCC.
During the meeting, President Alimi emphasized the deep-rooted relationship between Yemen and the GCC. He praised the Council’s unwavering support for the Yemeni people and their constitutional legitimacy. Alimi highlighted the GCC’s active role in advocating for Yemen’s political and diplomatic issues. He stated that Yemen serves as the natural strategic depth for Gulf countries, asserting that its stability is integral to the security and stability of the entire region.
President Alimi briefed the Secretary-General on recent developments and the ongoing efforts led by Saudi Arabia and the UAE to de-escalate tensions and normalize conditions in Yemen. He stressed the importance of preserving the gains achieved through the Riyadh consultations, restoring state institutions, and achieving lasting peace and stability. Furthermore, he reiterated the Council’s commitment to resolving the southern issue based on national references.
The President acknowledged the significant economic and humanitarian support provided by GCC countries. He noted that this assistance has been crucial in stabilizing Yemen and preventing a complete state collapse. Alimi appreciated the Secretary-General’s initiative to host an international conference on food security and donors for Yemen.
In response, Secretary-General Al-Budaiwi reaffirmed the GCC’s steadfast support for the Yemeni people, the Presidential Leadership Council, and the government. He emphasized the Council’s commitment to achieving security, stability, and a comprehensive political solution based on international references.
The meeting also included Dr. Yahya Al-Shaibi, Director of the Presidential Office, and Sarhan Al-Munaiher, head of the GCC mission to Yemen.
This meeting highlights the ongoing collaboration between Yemen and the GCC, focusing on peace, stability, and regional security.
