Today, Major General Sultan Al-Aradah, a member of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council, engaged in a virtual meeting with U.S. Ambassador Stephen Fagin. The discussion focused on the current political and military developments in Yemen.
Al-Aradah emphasized that Yemen faces an extremely challenging and complex phase. He called for regional and international cooperation based on effective partnerships to tackle the ongoing challenges. He pointed out that international leniency has emboldened the Iran-backed Houthi militia, allowing them to undermine United Nations efforts. Al-Aradah urged the international community to take responsibility and support the Yemeni government in restoring state institutions and alleviating the suffering of the Yemeni people.
The General reiterated the importance of adhering to the three reference points and the power transfer declaration. He warned that the current circumstances could have severe implications for security, stability, and counter-terrorism efforts. Al-Aradah stressed that rescuing Yemen requires a unified international stance that translates into actionable steps to address economic and humanitarian challenges while cutting off funding sources for the militias.
In response, Ambassador Stephen Fagin reaffirmed the United States’ steadfast support for the Yemeni people. He highlighted Washington’s commitment to strengthening partnerships and aiding efforts to achieve stability, security, and development, ultimately reducing the hardships faced by Yemenis.
This meeting underscores the urgent need for collaborative efforts to navigate Yemen’s ongoing crisis and restore peace in the region.
