In a significant move to uphold human rights and restore state sovereignty, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, the head of the Presidential Leadership Council and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, has directed the immediate closure of all illegal prisons and detention centers in liberated provinces. This directive also includes the prompt release of detainees held outside the legal framework.
Following the presidential order, President Alimi tasked security and military agencies to collaborate with the Public Prosecution and the Ministry of Justice. Their mission involves identifying illegal detention sites in the provinces of Aden, Lahij, and Al-Dhale. Authorities must develop an urgent plan to shut down these facilities and ensure that any detainees are either transferred to official legal institutions or released if no charges are substantiated against them.
This initiative reflects a broader commitment to human rights and the rule of law in Yemen. By addressing the issue of unlawful detentions, the government aims to reinforce its dedication to protecting citizens’ rights and restoring public trust in state institutions.
