On Sunday, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, head of the Presidential Leadership Council, welcomed Jonathan Pecha, the U.S. Charge d’Affaires in Yemen. The two leaders discussed the strong bilateral relations between Yemen and the United States, focusing on opportunities for enhancement and development.
During their meeting, they addressed the latest developments in Yemen across various sectors. They emphasized the need for international support to bolster government reform efforts, stabilize the national currency, and improve public services. Additionally, they coordinated efforts to support law enforcement agencies in combating terrorism, money laundering, and organized crime.
President Alimi praised the United States for its unwavering support of constitutional legitimacy. He acknowledged the humanitarian interventions that aim to alleviate the crisis exacerbated by Houthi militia attacks, which are backed by the Iranian regime. These attacks have targeted oil facilities and international shipping routes.
The President provided an overview of the political, economic, security, and military developments in Yemen. He highlighted the comprehensive reforms and financial policies recently implemented in line with the decisions of the Presidential Leadership Council. These measures have positively impacted the national currency and the prices of essential goods.
Alimi discussed the coordinated government efforts with the Central Bank and relevant authorities to regain control over inflation and the public budget deficit. He stressed the urgent need for regional and international support to strengthen these initiatives.
The President also noted important successes in security and military operations. These include the apprehension of terrorist cells linked to the Houthi militia and the interception of arms shipments and narcotics. Such actions underscore Iran’s ongoing investment in its terrorist militias, which aim to destabilize regional and international security and prolong the humanitarian crisis in Yemen.
In this context, President Alimi highlighted the existing cooperation and partnership with the United States in areas such as coast guard operations, counter-terrorism, and smuggling prevention. He acknowledged the active role of the U.S. in supporting the United Nations inspection mechanism and enforcing the arms embargo against Iranian weapons supplied to the Houthis. This collaboration aims to cut off funding sources for their terrorist activities and mitigate threats to Yemen’s security and stability.
Dr. Yahya Al-Shaibi, Director of the Presidential Office, attended the meeting, which underscored the importance of international support for comprehensive reforms in Yemen.
