On Sunday, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, head of the Presidential Leadership Council, welcomed the UK Ambassador, Abda Sharif, to discuss key issues affecting Yemen.
During the meeting, both leaders explored the current state of bilateral relations between Yemen and the United Kingdom. They addressed local developments, efforts to normalize conditions, and the recovery process in liberated provinces. Additionally, they discussed measures to enhance the capacity of legitimate institutions to maintain security and stability, as well as the international community’s role in supporting these efforts. This dialogue marks a new phase of promising partnership in Yemen.
President Alimi praised the UK’s positive role in supporting Yemen’s unity, constitutional legitimacy, and peace efforts. He highlighted the UK’s vital humanitarian interventions aimed at alleviating the suffering of the Yemeni people.
The President emphasized the significance of the partnership between Yemen and the UK in restoring state institutions, combating terrorism, and ensuring regional stability and maritime security. He outlined recent presidential actions taken to normalize conditions in coordination with the leadership of the Coalition to Support Legitimacy. These actions include recent sovereign decisions aimed at protecting civilians and upholding the state’s legal framework, in accordance with the power transfer announcement and the governing rules of the Presidential Leadership Council.
President Alimi reported successful transitions of military camps in the provinces of Hadhramaut and Al-Mahra. He noted ongoing efforts to normalize conditions in the temporary capital, Aden, and other liberated provinces. This process aims to consolidate weapons under state control and facilitate the return of all institutions to normal operations.
The President stated that these successes would improve humanitarian conditions, ease the flow of aid, and build trust with the international community. He described the successful handover of military camps as a foundational step toward unifying military and security decisions based on clear institutional principles.
In this context, President Alimi announced the formation of the High Military Committee. This professional framework will unify all military and security forces and reorganize them under the Ministries of Defense and Interior.
The establishment of this committee sends a clear message that the Yemeni state remains focused on its national priorities. The handover of military camps represents a crucial corrective measure to protect the internal front and maintain focus on restoring state institutions and ending the Houthi militia’s insurgency, whether through peaceful means or military action.
President Alimi described the decision to dissolve the Southern Transitional Council as a courageous and responsible move at a critical juncture. This decision reflects an understanding of the sensitivity of the current phase and the dangers of internal conflicts that could weaken the internal front against real threats. He emphasized the importance of addressing the implications of this decision responsibly, prioritizing state interests over personal grievances, and avoiding past mistakes that led to exclusion and marginalization.
The President stressed that the upcoming phase requires leveraging all national capacities, both civilian and military, within the framework of the state and its legitimate institutions, while upholding the rule of law.
President Alimi reiterated the pivotal role of Saudi Arabia in de-escalating tensions and facilitating southern dialogue. He acknowledged Saudi support as part of generous economic assistance and humanitarian interventions across various sectors.
Looking ahead, President Alimi outlined key priorities, including the return of the government and state institutions to operate from within Yemen, improving essential services, enhancing judicial independence, and creating a secure environment for investment and reconstruction. He reaffirmed the state’s commitment to stability and strengthening the capacity of legitimate institutions to maintain security and build peace. He called on the UK and the international community to continue supporting this path, including deterring any attempts to disrupt the political process in Yemen.
The meeting also included Dr. Yahya Al-Shaibi, Director of the Presidential Office.
This article highlights the ongoing efforts to stabilize Yemen and underscores the importance of international partnerships in achieving lasting peace and recovery.
