Arab Parliament Reaffirms Support for Yemen’s Unity and Legitimacy

The Arab Parliament has reiterated its unwavering support for the unity, sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of the Republic of Yemen. The Parliament expressed its backing for the Presidential Leadership Council and the Yemeni government, emphasizing its commitment to actions aimed at ending the Houthi militia’s coup and restoring state institutions.

Call for International Action Against Houthi Militia

In a statement issued during a meeting on the developments in Yemen, the Arab Parliament urged Arab and international parliaments to take supportive measures to classify the Houthi militia as a terrorist organization. This classification would help cut off funding sources and prevent the militia from receiving weapons, while also strengthening accountability mechanisms for the violations committed by the group.

Condemnation of Houthi Attacks

The Arab Parliament strongly condemned the missile attacks launched by the Houthi militia within Yemeni territory. These attacks represent a serious escalation that threatens Yemen’s security and stability. The Parliament called for accountability for those responsible and emphasized the need to enhance protection for security and military facilities and their personnel.

Demand for International Action Beyond Condemnation

The Parliament called for a global stance that goes beyond mere condemnation, urging practical steps to dry up the militia’s funding sources and prevent its armament. It expressed its condemnation of the ongoing siege of Taiz city, demanding the lifting of restrictions on the city, the opening of roads, and ensuring the unobstructed delivery of humanitarian aid.

Solidarity with Saudi Arabia

The Arab Parliament condemned the Houthi militia’s missile and drone attacks on civilian facilities, energy installations, and airports in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It also denounced threats to commercial vessels and navigation security in the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, and Bab al-Mandab Strait. The Parliament affirmed its full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and rejected any aggression that affects its security and stability.

Urgent Call for Release of Detained UN Staff

The Parliament denounced the continued detention of United Nations staff and humanitarian and human rights workers. It demanded the immediate and unconditional release of all arbitrarily detained individuals, ensuring their safety and respecting the immunities granted to international organizations.

Emphasis on Security Council Resolutions

The Arab Parliament stressed the necessity of fully implementing relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions concerning Yemen. It called for preventing arms smuggling and halting any prohibited support for the Houthi militia. The Parliament highlighted the importance of protecting civilians, documenting violations, holding perpetrators accountable, and stopping the recruitment and use of children in combat.

Acknowledgment of Saudi Support for Yemen

The Arab Parliament praised the support provided by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the Republic of Yemen in economic, developmental, and humanitarian fields. It called on the international community and donor organizations to increase funding for relief programs and ensure the safe and regular delivery of humanitarian aid to those in need.
