Palestinian Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohammad Mustafa, emphasized the critical need to implement the United Nations General Assembly resolution based on the advisory opinion issued by the International Court of Justice. This step aims to end the occupation and facilitate the establishment of a Palestinian state.
Mustafa made these remarks during a series of meetings held on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. He engaged in discussions with several prominent leaders, including Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo, New Zealand Foreign Minister Winston Peters, Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly, and Swedish Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard, each in separate sessions.
During these meetings, Mustafa highlighted the urgent need to halt the ongoing violence against Gaza and the escalating aggression in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem. He urged for the opening of crossings into Gaza to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid, ensuring that assistance reaches all areas of the territory to address pressing human needs.
In addition to discussing humanitarian issues, Mustafa called for support in securing full membership for Palestine in the United Nations. He also explored ways to enhance cooperation between Palestine and the countries represented in the meetings. Mustafa urged nations that have yet to recognize the state of Palestine to act swiftly in doing so, reinforcing the importance of a two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
By advocating for these measures, Mustafa seeks to garner international support to advance the Palestinian cause and promote peace in the region.
