In a significant development for women’s economic and social empowerment in Yemen, the National Women’s Committee and Hope Microfinance Bank signed a memorandum of understanding today in Aden, the temporary capital. This agreement is part of broader governmental efforts to strengthen women’s roles within economic activities and enhance their access to financial support opportunities.
Dr. Shafiqa Said, head of the National Women’s Committee, articulated that this agreement represents a pivotal step in bolstering women’s contributions to the national economy. She emphasized that the committee will facilitate access to funding for women in need, thereby improving living conditions for Yemeni families. “Economic empowerment for women is essential for achieving sustainable development in the country,” Dr. Said remarked.
Omar Al-Dhabhani, director of Hope Bank, elaborated on the objectives of the memorandum, highlighting its role in fostering partnerships between national institutions and the banking sector. He underscored the importance of supporting women entrepreneurs, acknowledging their effectiveness in managing projects and fulfilling financial commitments. Al-Dhabhani further stated that the bank is committed to providing necessary training programs aimed at enhancing women’s skills in project management and financial literacy.
The memorandum outlines the implementation of specialized training programs focusing on project management and financial literacy. Additionally, it encourages the adoption of digital banking services, which can facilitate easier access to financial resources. The agreement also supports environmentally sustainable projects and establishes a joint coordination committee tasked with monitoring the implementation and evaluating the outcomes of the agreement periodically. This collaboration marks a strategic advancement in enhancing the roles of women in the Yemeni economy, ensuring their economic and social rights are upheld.
