In a significant meeting held today in Aden, Yemen’s temporary capital, Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, Mukhtar Al-Yafai, engaged with Mohammed Takwi, the Country Director of Handicap International. The discussion centered on enhancing partnerships and coordination to support programs for individuals with disabilities, aiming to improve rehabilitation and medical services available to them.
During the meeting, both parties explored existing areas of cooperation between the Ministry of Social Affairs and Handicap International. Key topics included support for rehabilitation and physical therapy centers, as well as humanitarian interventions related to individuals with disabilities. They also examined strategies to expand programs to include comprehensive psychological, social, and health services. These efforts are designed to enhance service quality and ensure sustainability.
Minister Al-Yafai emphasized the ministry’s commitment to developing a robust partnership with Handicap International. He highlighted the necessity of achieving a qualitative leap in the services provided to individuals with disabilities. The minister stressed the importance of strengthening the capabilities of specialized institutions and centers, enabling them to deliver comprehensive services that meet high professional and humanitarian standards. Additionally, he advocated for vocational rehabilitation programs and job opportunities to promote the integration of individuals with disabilities into society.
In response, Takwi presented an overview of Handicap International’s activities and programs in Yemen. He highlighted the organization’s focus on training, rehabilitation, and building the capacities of local staff. Takwi reaffirmed the organization’s dedication to continuing coordination with the Ministry of Social Affairs to enhance programs, broaden support, and improve the quality of services offered.
This meeting marks a crucial step toward advancing the rights and services for individuals with disabilities in Yemen. By fostering collaboration between the Ministry of Social Affairs and Handicap International, both parties aim to create a more inclusive society that prioritizes the needs of all its members.
