Minister of Information: Classifying Houthis as a terrorist organization strengthens efforts to combat terrorism.

On March 4, Yemeni Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism Muammar Al-Eryani welcomed the United States’ decision to classify the Iran-backed Houthi militia as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO). This designation comes as part of a broader strategy to combat terrorism and was announced following directives from U.S. President Donald Trump.

Significance of the Decision

In a press statement, Al-Eryani emphasized that this historic decision underscores the United States’ commitment to confronting the terrorism perpetrated by the Houthi militia. He described the move as a critical step toward cutting off the militia’s funding sources and isolating it internationally. The Houthis have been implicated in attacks on civilians and threats to maritime navigation in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, endangering both regional and international interests.

Legal Implications for Engagement

According to the new classification, any individual or entity that engages with the Houthis now faces legal repercussions under anti-terrorism laws. This includes financial sanctions, asset freezes related to any dealings with the militia, and potential political and social isolation.

U.S. Rewards for Information

Al-Eryani also noted that the United States has announced a reward of up to $15 million for information that disrupts the financial networks of the Houthis. The U.S. government has made it clear that it will not tolerate any nation conducting business with terrorist organizations like the Houthis under the guise of legitimate international trade.

The minister cautioned all individuals and organizations against any form of engagement with the Houthi militia following their designation as terrorists. He stated that any political, economic, media, or social interaction with the Houthis would be considered complicity with terrorism and would face severe legal consequences.

Call to Action for Business Leaders

Al-Eryani urged business leaders to immediately cease any financial or commercial dealings with the Houthis. He also warned tribal leaders and social figures to avoid falling into the Houthi trap, as the militia exploits individuals before discarding them.
