Alarming Humanitarian Statistics

According to the report, which the Yemeni News Agency (Saba) obtained, international indicators reveal that 19.5 million citizens require humanitarian assistance and protection. Additionally, 17.1 million people suffer from food insecurity, with projections indicating that this number could rise to 18.3 million by 2026. The report also notes that 2.2 million children under five face acute malnutrition, alongside 1.3 million pregnant and nursing women experiencing similar issues. These figures reflect the growing hunger and economic collapse in the country.

Houthi Policies Fueling the Crisis

The report attributes this crisis to a series of policies implemented by the Houthi militias. These policies include banning the circulation of the new national currency, withholding salaries from hundreds of thousands of employees, imposing internal taxes and customs, closing roads, and interfering with trade and fuel movement. It also details the storming and confiscation of 73 UN and humanitarian organization offices.
