Strengthening Bilateral Cooperation in Legal Fields

Today, in the temporary capital of Aden, Minister of Legal Affairs Judge Ishraq Al-Maqtari convened with Catherine Gramegon, the French Ambassador to Yemen. Their discussions centered on enhancing bilateral cooperation in legal and institutional domains. This meeting is part of the Yemeni government’s broader strategy to bolster institutional work mechanisms and ensure effective law enforcement, particularly in light of the ongoing challenges facing the country.

Legal Development Issues

The meeting, which was also attended by political advisor Hussein Murshid, addressed several critical issues related to the ministry’s development. Key topics included digital transformation, legislative archiving, and the activation of the official gazette. Furthermore, they explored the implementation of training programs for ministry staff, with a specific emphasis on empowering women and enhancing their professional and specialized skills. This focus reflects the Yemeni government’s commitment to strengthening women’s roles in both legal and administrative sectors.

Ministry Priorities and France’s Support

Minister Al-Maqtari highlighted the ministry’s primary efforts and priorities aimed at reinforcing institutional frameworks and modernizing administrative structures. She outlined strategic plans to review and update national legislation to ensure alignment with contemporary changes. Among the crucial legislative projects discussed were those addressing cybercrime, investment, and counter-terrorism, which are essential for supporting state stability and promoting good governance.

In response, Ambassador Gramegon commended the ministry’s efforts and its sustained performance despite various challenges. She reiterated France’s commitment to enhancing technical cooperation and exchanging expertise, particularly in reinforcing the principles of the rule of law. The ambassador expressed readiness to expand areas of cooperation, focusing on training, capacity building, and exploring institutional partnerships with French legal and legislative entities. This collaborative effort aims to advance Yemen’s legal system and strengthen its foundations.
