Masam has removed 2,166 mines and munitions in Yemen since the beginning of September.

The Mine Clearance Project, known as Masam, continues its field operations in Yemen throughout September, achieving new progress in clearing land from mines, unexploded ordnance, and improvised explosive devices.

The project’s operations room reported that Masam teams removed a total of 2,166 mines, unexploded ordnance, and explosive devices from the beginning of September until the 11th. This total includes 1,660 unexploded ordnance, 488 anti-tank mines, 7 anti-personnel mines, and 11 explosive devices.

During the same period, the teams managed to clear 443,939 square meters of land, as part of efforts to reduce the risks posed by war remnants and prepare affected areas for the return of population and development activities.

Last Week’s Achievements

The operations room clarified that project teams removed 1,303 mines, ordnance, and devices during the past week. This figure includes 1,276 unexploded ordnance, 18 anti-tank mines, one anti-personnel mine, and 8 explosive devices. Additionally, they cleared 248,945 square meters of land.

Masam’s Achievements in Midi District

In the Midi District of Hajjah Governorate, the operations room confirmed that project teams have removed 13,108 mines, unexploded ordnance, and explosive devices since they began work in the area. The total area cleared reached 4,834,877 square meters.

Eight Years of Fieldwork Results

Osama Al-Qusaibi, the General Director of the Masam Project, stated that since its launch in June 2018 until September 11, 2026, teams have removed a total of 590,491 mines, unexploded ordnance, and explosive devices.

This total includes:

• 421,168 unexploded ordnance
• 152,964 anti-tank mines
• 7,682 anti-personnel mines
• 8,677 explosive devices

The teams also cleared 85,447,115 square meters of Yemeni land during the same period, marking one of the largest demining operations in the region.

These figures highlight the extensive efforts made by the Masam Project over more than eight years to secure areas affected by mines and reduce the risks threatening the lives of residents.
