The Ministry of Transport stated, “The continued shelling of Aden International Airport by Houthi militias, supported by the Iranian regime, represents a highly dangerous escalation. Protecting the lives of travelers and ensuring the safety and security of civil aviation is a responsibility that cannot be delayed or neglected.”
In a statement received by the Yemeni News Agency (Saba), the ministry reported that the militias targeted the airport twice on Wednesday with ballistic missiles. The first attack occurred at 1 PM, followed by a second strike at 3 PM. This escalation threatens the safety of air navigation and the lives of civilians. The ministry expressed its strong condemnation and denunciation of these terrorist attacks, which have increased to six incidents in recent days.
The ministry emphasized that the repeated targeting of the airport, a vital civilian facility, poses a direct threat to the lives of travelers, flight crews, and airport staff. It also exposes civil aviation operations to serious risks. The ministry highlighted the implications of these dangerous attacks on the movement of citizens and humanitarian efforts. The continuation of these assaults raises serious concerns about the safety of air operations and places civilian lives in unacceptable danger.
The ministry held the Houthi militias fully responsible for these attacks and their consequences. It urged the international community and relevant United Nations organizations, particularly the International Civil Aviation Organization, to condemn these assaults. The ministry called for urgent action to halt these attacks and to take a clear and firm stance that ensures the protection of airports and civilian facilities, safeguarding civil aviation in accordance with relevant international laws and agreements.
