Strengthening Financial Management
In a significant move towards enhancing financial resource management, Lahj Governor, Major General Ahmed Turki, has called upon the leadership of the local authorities across the province’s directorates to focus on the development of financial resources throughout the remainder of the current year, 2024, and beyond. This directive was issued during a comprehensive meeting chaired by Turki, which saw the participation of key figures including the Secretary-General of the Local Council in the province, Awad Salah, deputy governors Mohammed Salam, and Dr. Ahmed Shubaiqi.
Addressing Revenue Decline
Governor Turki pinpointed the decline in local, shared, and general revenue percentages as a consequence of the directorates’ leadership’s negligence and their inconsistent efforts in collecting the state’s financial dues. Despite being fully empowered by the local authority law and the provincial leadership, these lapses have been identified as critical areas needing immediate attention. Turki’s comments highlight the urgent need for a more rigorous approach to revenue collection.
Collaborative Efforts for Project Success
The meeting also shed light on the pivotal role of the administrative bodies of the local councils in the directorates. These bodies are heavily relied upon for the evaluation, analysis, decision-making, and approval of public tenders for directorate projects. Their support is crucial for the directors in these processes, emphasizing the importance of teamwork and integrated efforts to foster the development and progress of the directorates in all sectors.
Financial Overview and Future Directions
A report presented during the meeting by the General Directorate of Financial Resources revealed that the total general share of the administrative units in the Lahj directorates from the shared general resources for the first half of the current year, 2024, amounted to 187 million, 399 thousand, and 13 Yemeni Rials. This financial overview underscores the critical need for enhanced financial management and resource development strategies moving forward.
Promoting Peace and Cooperation
Furthermore, Governor Turki met with the committee tasked with addressing the damages from vendetta issues in the Had Yafae directorate. He discussed their voluntary work within the community, reaffirming the local authority’s support for their humanitarian efforts to preserve the lives of the directorate’s residents. Turki directed local, security, judicial authorities, and social figures in the directorate to collaborate effectively with the committee’s mission, facilitating their efforts to achieve significant success in safeguarding lives and halting bloodshed.
This concerted push towards better financial management, coupled with initiatives aimed at promoting peace and cooperation, marks a significant step forward in the governance and development of Lahj province.
