Prime Minister assesses flood damage across several provinces.

Yemen's Prime Minister Responds to Flood Crisis

In the wake of severe flooding caused by heavy rains across several provinces, Yemen’s Prime Minister, Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak, has been closely monitoring the resultant damage, particularly in the districts of Hajjah, Taiz, and Al Hudaydah. The floods have led to significant infrastructure damage, destruction of homes, and numerous casualties and injuries.

Coordinated Response Efforts

Prime Minister Bin Mubarak has initiated extensive communications with relevant ministers, governors of the affected provinces, emergency operation centers, and executive units managing displaced persons’ camps. He has received preliminary reports on the damages and the ongoing efforts to address the situation urgently. The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of prioritizing citizen safety, urging them to stay away from valleys and flood paths.

Priority to Rescue and Relief Operations

Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak has directed that rescue and relief efforts for citizens and displaced individuals affected by the floods be given the utmost priority. He has called for the provision of necessary alternatives in the most affected areas and the implementation of immediate measures to manage floodwaters. Mobilizing all available resources for these efforts is crucial, he noted, emphasizing the need to assess damages and identify urgent intervention priorities to tackle the disaster effectively.

International Support Requested

Furthermore, the Prime Minister has urgently appealed to United Nations agencies and international organizations to support the government’s efforts in providing emergency humanitarian and relief assistance to those affected by the flood disaster and to meet their immediate needs.

This proactive approach by Yemen’s leadership aims to mitigate the impact of the floods and provide swift assistance to those in dire need, highlighting the government’s commitment to its citizens’ safety and well-being in times of crisis.
