Yemen and Jordan Strengthen Parliamentary Cooperation

Dr. Jalal Faqira, Yemen’s Ambassador to Jordan, met today with Dina Al-Bashir, the Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee in the Jordanian House of Representatives. The two officials discussed ways to enhance parliamentary cooperation and improve coordination between Yemen and Jordan in regional and international forums.

Current Situation in Yemen

During the meeting, Ambassador Faqira provided an update on the latest developments in Yemen. He highlighted the ongoing challenges in the Red Sea region and outlined the efforts made by the Presidential Leadership Council, led by President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi. These efforts aim to address the economic and security challenges posed by the Houthi militia.

U.S. Terror Designation of Houthis

Ambassador Faqira also addressed the implications of the recent U.S. decision to designate the Houthis as a foreign terrorist organization. This designation will take effect on March 4, 2025, and includes a list of individuals subject to U.S. Treasury sanctions. The ambassador emphasized the significance of this decision in the context of Yemen’s ongoing struggles.

Jordan’s Commitment to Yemen

In response, Chairwoman Al-Bashir reaffirmed the deep-rooted ties between Yemen and Jordan. She expressed Jordan’s commitment to strengthening relations across various sectors. Additionally, she reiterated Jordan’s stance on various Arab issues and its support for efforts aimed at establishing peace and ensuring Yemen’s security, stability, and territorial integrity.

Support for Yemeni Citizens

Jordanian lawmakers, including Dr. Ibrahim Tarawneh, Dr. Mohammed Al-Jarrah, Dr. Bakr Al-Haysah, Ali Al-Khalayleh, Engineer Hussein Kreshan, and Atallah Al-Hunaiti, expressed their concern for the situation in Yemen. They highlighted King Abdullah II’s directives to provide medical assistance to injured and ill Yemenis. The lawmakers emphasized the importance of finding a comprehensive solution that meets the aspirations of the Yemeni people for security and peace.

Conclusion

The meeting concluded with the presence of Deputy Ambassador Omar Musa, underscoring the collaborative spirit between Yemen and Jordan. Both nations remain committed to working together to address the pressing challenges facing Yemen and to foster stability in the region.
