The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center’s demining initiative, known as “Masam,” reported a successful operation during the fourth week of May, removing a total of 1,609 landmines and unexploded ordnance. These hazardous explosives were reportedly planted by Houthi militia across various provinces in Yemen, posing a significant threat to civilian safety.

From the beginning of May until the 29th, Masam teams have removed a total of 6,323 landmines and unexploded ordnance. This total encompasses:

In May 2023, Masam teams cleared approximately 1,202,243 square meters of land in Yemen, significantly reducing threats to civilian safety and creating secure areas for agricultural and civil use. In just the past week, field teams managed to clear an additional 8,200 square meters of land, part of ongoing emergency demining efforts in affected regions.
In the Medi district of Hajjah province, Masam teams have removed 9,978 landmines and unexploded ordnance since the project’s inception in the area. They have also successfully cleared 3,006,250 square meters of land, contributing to enhanced security and the restoration of normalcy for residents in liberated and mine-affected regions.
