Houthi Militia Denies Free Insulin to Diabetes Patients in Ibb

The Houthi militia continues to deny diabetes patients in Ibb Governorate access to free insulin provided by international organizations. Amid deteriorating health and living conditions, these patients face inhumane practices. Reports indicate that the militia manipulates medical aid and sells medications on the black market.

Ongoing Insulin Crisis in Ibb

Diabetes patients have reported that the health office’s warehouses in Ibb have been completely devoid of insulin for several months. Although these medications arrive through UN humanitarian aid, health authorities under militia control claim they have not received their allocations from Sana’a. Meanwhile, some medications are distributed to close associates, while large quantities are sold to private pharmacies.

Manipulation of Medical Aid

Medical sources reveal that significant amounts of diabetes medications and other supplies are available in Sana’a, designated for Ibb Governorate. However, militia leaders intentionally delay the receipt of these medications, citing a lack of transportation budget. This delay aims to manipulate aid and sell medications in private markets, exacerbating the suffering of patients.

Silence of International Organizations

Since the militia’s takeover of the state and its control over the governorate, incidents of looting and selling medical and humanitarian aid have become commonplace. Eligible recipients suffer from the denial of these essential resources due to Houthi practices. In this context, the silence of international organizations that provide these medications for free highlights the international community’s failure to address these violations.
