The Houthi militia has escalated its campaign of abductions against citizens celebrating the 63rd anniversary of the September 26 Revolution in Ibb Province, Yemen. This crackdown aims to suppress any public displays of national pride associated with this significant occasion.
Local sources indicate that on Wednesday, the militia abducted at least seven citizens from the districts of Dhay Sufal, Al-Sayani, and Al-Makhadir. These arrests occurred in response to social media posts and celebratory images related to the revolution. The detainees were taken to undisclosed locations.
Among those abducted are Fadhl Badah, Mohammed Yahya Al-Kabari, Mohammed Al-Manahi, Fawaz Al-Najjar, and Mukhtar Mohsen Abdullah Aburas from Dhay Sufal. Additionally, lawyer Issa Abdullah Mohammed Naji Al-Tawil was kidnapped while in the city of Al-Qaidah, and Talal Al-Harithi from the Al-Daleel area in Al-Makhadir also faced abduction due to his previous celebrations of the revolution.
This recent wave of abductions follows earlier operations targeting teachers and activists in the districts of Ba’dan, Al-Sadah, and Al-Nadrah. The militia has imposed strict measures, including surveillance on shops selling national flags and prohibiting their sale in public spaces.
On Tuesday evening, the militia issued a security statement declaring a ban on any public celebrations for the September 26 Revolution. They claimed that such events could lead to “hostile plots” aimed at destabilizing the internal front and inciting unrest.
The Houthi militia’s actions reflect a broader strategy to stifle dissent and control public sentiment in Yemen. As citizens continue to face threats for expressing their national pride, the situation remains tense in the region.
