On Monday, Abdulrahman Al-Mahrami, a member of the Presidential Leadership Council, met with Dr. Jamal Sorour, the head of the Tax Authority, in the temporary capital of Aden. The discussion focused on the Tax Authority’s performance in the first half of this year, its achievements, and the challenges it faces. They also explored strategies to overcome these obstacles.

Tax Revenue Growth

Dr. Sorour reported a significant 28% increase in tax revenue collection during the first half of the year. He expressed optimism that this growth could reach 50% by the end of the year. This increase is crucial for enhancing the economic situation and alleviating the hardships faced by citizens.

Emphasis on Regular Revenue Transfers

Al-Mahrami stressed the importance of regularly transferring all revenues to the Central Bank in Aden. He highlighted that consistent revenue flow is vital for improving the economic landscape and supporting the community.

Modernizing Tax Operations

During the meeting, Al-Mahrami urged the Tax Authority’s leadership to enhance operational mechanisms and programs in line with approved regulations. He emphasized the need to implement automation to transition from paper-based systems to a comprehensive electronic framework. Simplifying procedures for citizens and taxpayers should be a top priority.

Enhancing Tax Collection Efficiency

Al-Mahrami underscored the necessity of improving tax collection efficiency. He noted that better collection practices would strengthen state resources and reduce tax losses, positively impacting the national economy.

The member of the Presidential Leadership Council commended the efforts of the Tax Authority’s leadership and staff in liberated provinces. He called for enhanced cooperation among all parties to achieve shared goals and overcome challenges that hinder tax operations.
