Human Rights Organization Condemns Houthi Kidnapping Campaign in Ibb

The human rights organization “Rasd” has condemned the systematic campaign by the Houthi militia to abduct civilians in Ibb, Yemen. The organization reported a troubling 95 documented cases of kidnapping over the past two months, highlighting a significant increase in violations against the local population.

Growing Concern Over Daily Abductions

In a recent statement, Rasd expressed deep concern regarding the rising number of daily abductions carried out by the Houthi militia. The organization criticized the “shameful international silence” surrounding these crimes, viewing it as a factor that encourages impunity for the perpetrators.

Targeting Professionals and Educators

Among those kidnapped, Rasd noted that over 60 individuals belong to academic, medical, and engineering fields. This group also includes school directors and educators, marking a blatant violation of international humanitarian law.

Call for Action from the Yemeni Government

Rasd urged the legitimate Yemeni government to file an official protest with the United Nations. The organization emphasized the need for the government to fulfill its legal and humanitarian responsibilities towards civilians. Rasd asserted that “these crimes do not expire over time, and their perpetrators will not escape accountability.”

Urgent Need for International Response

Previously, Rasd documented the abduction of 35 academics, doctors, engineers, and educators at the onset of the Houthi campaign. With the total number of documented cases now reaching 95, the organization calls for immediate action from international human rights and humanitarian organizations.

The situation in Ibb demands urgent attention as the Houthi militia continues its campaign of terror against innocent civilians.
