President Alimi Invited to Attend Global Urban Forum in Baku

President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, head of the Presidential Leadership Council, has received an invitation from Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. The invitation is for the inaugural summit of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum, scheduled to take place in Baku this May.

Diplomatic Meeting Highlights

Today, Foreign Minister Dr. Shaif Al-Zandani met with Shahin Abdullayev, the Azerbaijani Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, to formally receive the invitation. During their discussion, Al-Zandani emphasized the strong friendship and cooperation between Yemen and Azerbaijan. He expressed the Yemeni government’s commitment to enhancing and expanding these relations across various areas of mutual interest.

Current Situation in Yemen

Minister Al-Zandani also provided an overview of the current situation in Yemen. He highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace. However, he pointed out significant challenges to these peace efforts, particularly due to the continued hostile actions of the Iranian-backed Houthi militias. These actions threaten international maritime navigation and trade in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab, posing risks to both regional and global security.

Azerbaijan’s Commitment to Peace

In response, Ambassador Abdullayev reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s interest in strengthening bilateral relations with Yemen. He expressed his country’s dedication to supporting peace initiatives and fostering stability in Yemen.

This invitation marks a significant opportunity for Yemen to engage with international partners at a crucial global forum. The World Urban Forum aims to address urban challenges and promote sustainable development worldwide.
