Al-Eryani condemns the killing of five children in a landmine explosion left by Houthis in Taiz.

Minister Condemns Houthi Attack That Killed Five Children

Tragic Incident in Taiz
Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism Muammar Al-Eryani has condemned the horrific crime committed by the Iranian-backed Houthi militia. This attack resulted in the deaths of five children and injured others in the Al-Hashma area of Taiz Governorate. The tragedy occurred due to the explosion of a locally-made explosive device.

Details of the Incident
In a press statement, Al-Eryani explained that local sources reported the children discovered the explosive device while playing in the area. Tragically, the device detonated, killing them instantly. The victims included 14-year-old Mubarak Yasser Ali Ahmad Al-Sharabi, 12-year-old Osama Abu Bakr Ahmad Ali, Bashir Akram Mohammed Al-Fadhli, Anas Jawad Mohammed Saleh, and Ahmed Ali Maqbel Abdullah Al-Atami.

Houthi Denial and Responsibility
Al-Eryani noted that the Houthi militia attempted to evade responsibility for this crime. They falsely claimed that the children died due to artillery shelling by the national army, despite the area being far from conflict lines and free from any recorded clashes. Furthermore, no shells were fired in that direction, as it is a populated area. The national army does not manufacture or plant mines or explosive devices, which undermines the militia’s claims and confirms their full responsibility for the crime.

Ongoing Violations Against Civilians
The Minister emphasized that this brutal crime is part of a series of daily violations committed by the Houthi militia against civilians and children. These violations occur in both areas under their control and in liberated regions. The militia’s reckless planting of mines and explosive devices along contact lines, roads, and farms often leads to these devices being washed into populated areas by rain, resulting in innocent casualties.

Call for International Action
Al-Eryani urged the international community, the United Nations, and local and international human rights organizations to clearly condemn this crime. He called for holding the Houthi militia legally and morally accountable for the victims of mines and explosive devices that continue to claim civilian lives across Yemen. He also stressed the need for urgent action to classify the militia as a terrorist organization, cut off its funding sources, and pursue its leaders involved in these crimes against the Yemeni people.

This tragic incident highlights the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Yemen and the urgent need for international intervention to protect civilians from such atrocities.
