A recent survey conducted by YouGov, involving 1,153 employees in Germany, highlights a significant increase in mental and physical stress within workplace environments. The findings reveal that 44% of participants reported heavier workloads, while 29% indicated heightened stress levels.
Employees attribute their stress to two primary factors:
The survey, commissioned by Swiss Life and the German Union for Workers in Mining, Chemicals, and Energy, reveals that younger employees express greater anxiety about their professional futures. Among those under 30, 37% fear that artificial intelligence will render their jobs obsolete. In contrast, only 17% of individuals born between 1965 and 1980 share this concern.
Michael Vassiliadis, the union’s president, described the survey results as a “wake-up call” for the German industrial landscape.
The survey also uncovers a clear divide between production workers and those in management roles:
Additionally, 54% of participants anticipate a rise in demands for flexibility and resilience in the near future. Meanwhile, 33% believe these demands will only increase in specific areas.
Dirk von der Krone, the Managing Director of Swiss Life in Germany, emphasized that the majority of respondents are preparing for a more challenging job market ahead.
The survey underscores a growing concern among German workers regarding workplace stress and the impact of technological advancements like artificial intelligence. As employees brace for potential challenges, the need for supportive measures in the workplace becomes increasingly critical.
